| Place of birth: Ivan Kononov was born on May 3, 1953 in Rostov-on-Don, the son of Inna Kononova (nee Malkova), a psychiatrist, and Arseny Kononov, who worked at Rostov steamship line. When Ivan was 8, they moved to Moscow. |

Professional experience: At the age of 17, he landed a job of cinema projectionist in Gorky Film Studio, Moscow. After serving the Army, he attended Moscow University, department of journalism. His TV career began in 1975, when he joined the USSR TV and Radio Broadcasting. He worked there for 10 years, laboring his way up from a reviewer to the station program director with the Vremena (Times) news program. Since 1985 he worked with Youth Department of this broadcaster, at first as a commentator, then as a chief of Journalistic Department, where made and launched such shows as The 12th Store, Glasnost-Box, Press Club, co-founded ATV, the very first independent broadcaster of Russia, etc. Ivan Kononov was deputy director of Novaya Studia, Ostankino (1992), editor-in-chief and one of the presenter at Channel Four (1992—1993), author and anchorman of The Third Eye, NTV (1993—1997), Press Club, Together, Vremechko (Small Time), A New Old Flat, author and chief of Akuna Matata, a talk show for youth. In 2001 Ivan Kononov was named Advisor on television to the President of Russian Culture Fund, a position he holds till now. At present Ivan Kononov works as a producer with Channel One and author and anchorman of 60 Minutes at DTV. |
| Published works, press comments: By 1988, Ivan Kononov had written series of songs dedicated to Rostov-on-Don which were to become well-known symbols of this city. End of The Century, his first book of poems, was published in 1999, Hi, Girls!, his first CD, – in 2002. |
| Family: He married Natalia Romanova, who is a journalist, author of numerous TV programs. The have a son, Yury (1976), a TV director. |
