Place of birth: Valeri Doliatovski was born in Stalingrad (now Volgograd).
Date of birth: 23 July 1939
Education: Don State Technological University, department of automatics and teleautomatics (1961).
Professional experience: His career in science began in 1961 when he became as a junior member of research staff at the Don Technological University. He worked with the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Cybernetics (1964—1967), as the UNESCO expert was engaged in work on multilingual thesaurus (Paris, 1969—1970). Since 1970 Valeri A. Doliatovski has been head of the chair of theory of information at Rostov Institute of National Economy, now the Rostov State Economic University. Among his assignments were professorship with University of Algiers (1972—1977), professorship with Universit? M. Nguabi, Congo (1984—1990); he worked as a visiting professor with Universit? Joseph Fourier, France in 1995 and 1996.
As key factors of his success, he names contacts with academicians V. Glushkov, N. Amosov, Yu. Antonomov, and A. Kogan, books on yoga, his own industriousness and inquisitiveness.
Membership: Member of the International Society of Medical and Biological Cybernetics, member of Asssociation des cemptes nationaux (Association of National Deposits), France; member of Society of Radio Engineering and Electronics; Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Science, the International Academy of Higher Education, New York Academy of Sciences.
Awards, honorary titles: The Sign of Honor Order (1982), the Peter the Great Medal (1995), the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences’ Medal (1998); honorary titles of Honored Scholar of Russia (1999), Honored Worker of Radio Comminications (1973).
Published works, press comments: Valeri Doliatovski is an author of 56 monographs and books, 540 articles, six inventions and one discovery.
Family: Wife - Vera Doliatovskaya (Shishkova), Dean of Rostov State Academy of Architecture and Arts, Ph.D, professor. Three children: Yana (1964) - a director of a bank, Vladislav (1970) - a surgeon, Leonid - a postgraduate.
Hobbies: Traveling, reading, mountaineering, mountain skiing.
Preferences: Valeri Doliatovski highly rates such human qualities as honesty, erudition, and constant strain for development. He prefers to spend vacations in the mountains, likes Bach, Andre Mauros’ prose, movies with Jean Gabin, and Jacques Brel’s chansons. Orchids are his favorite flowers, Great Danes dogs – his favorite animals; as for liquors, gin is his favorite alcohol.
Wishes, plans: His planes and wishes include “to receive the status of an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, financial independence… to publish a number of good books, to travel every year.”
