Historical outlines: The oldesr theatre in the region, Novocherkassk theatre was founded in 1825. In 1850s it was, to cite Nemirovich-Danchenko, ''one of the best Russian theatres''; it is sufficient to say that its stage saw such stars as Shchepkin, Lensky, Fedotova, Roshchin-Insarov, and Vera Komissarzhevskaya, the world-known Russian actress whose name the theatre has been bear since 1964. In 1991 the theatre got the second name - Don Cossack Theatre, to stress its mission on revival of the Don Cossack culture.
Founders: Novocherkassk city administration.
Indices: 280 performaces per year; about seven new productions.
Staff: 280 employees; 40 actors.

Partners: The theatre is a home to the Yaroslavl Drama Institute branch, so called Cossack Course (since 1992).
Achievements: Komissarzhevskaya Theatre got numerous prizes and diplomas, including diplomas of four All-Russian Drama Art Contests, the Golden Palm-Tree, Paris, and Grand Prix, Cannes; the theatre participates in the Partnership For Progress international project, etc.

Plans, prospects: The theatre's plans include launching of a new drama festival, touring Russia and abroad.
