| Historical outlines: The oldesr theatre in the region, Novocherkassk theatre was founded in 1825. In 1850s it was, to cite Nemirovich-Danchenko, ''one of the best Russian theatres''; it is sufficient to say that its stage saw such stars as Shchepkin, Lensky, Fedotova, Roshchin-Insarov, and Vera Komissarzhevskaya, the world-known Russian actress whose name the theatre has been bear since 1964. In 1991 the theatre got the second name - Don Cossack Theatre, to stress its mission on revival of the Don Cossack culture. |
